Beale Air Force Base Prescribed Fire Burn Planned for Saturday June 5

Yuba City, Calif. – The Feather River Air Quality Management District is issuing this press release to provide the public with information in preparation for a prescribed burn window at Beale Air Force Base. The prescribed burns will take place on base between May 27 and June 11.  Approximately 3,255 acres of prescribed burning is scheduled to take place between these dates. The majority of the burning (2,175 acres) is scheduled to occur on June 5 or as soon afterwards as conditions allow.

During these prescribed burns smoke will be visible coming from Beale Air Force Base.  Burns will start between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. depending on weather conditions and will continue into the afternoon. Smoke will likely be visible from Highway 20, Marysville, Yuba City, Browns Valley, Smartsville, Wheatland, Linda and surrounding communities. While smoke may be visible across a large area, the goal of smoke management is nearby communities are not impacted by smoke before it disperses.

For the June 5 burn, air monitoring stations and sensors will monitor potential smoke impacts throughout the surrounding communities.  Air quality monitoring data is available to the public online at www.Airnow.gov.  Beale’s Air Quality Manager and Wildland Fire & Fuels Specialists have been working in close coordination with the Feather River Air Quality Management District and California Air Resources Board to minimize smoke impacts to the surrounding communities.

Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions are more susceptible to health impacts from particulates in smoke and should use caution if they smell smoke.

The burn is dependent on weather and air quality conditions that are favorable for smoke dispersal.  If the conditions are not as desired, the burn will be rescheduled.

For more information or questions regarding the prescribed burns, please see attached press release from Beale Air Force Base 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs or contact 9rw.pa@us.af.mil or 530-634-8887.
